People complain the diet pushes too much red meat and cheese. Although Atkins was a big deal back in the day, it’s just not in the same league with today’s top diets like Nutrisystem or Medifast Diet.

Generally, critics are sceptical of how a high-protein, high-fat diet can result in weight loss. Research shows that people can keep off weight lost with the Atkins plan as long as they don't go back to eating the way they used to eat. People have successfully lost weight with this approach for over thirty years. Several studies have shown that men and women lost twice the weight on the Atkins plan, compared to those individuals following a ‘high-respected' low-fat diet. However, many success stories involve support of some kind atkins diet.

I find it really frustrating when people just say all you eat is MEAT. This is not true. I guess in our Western diet, we are so consumd with everything that is non-vegetable, that after you take out your bread, all you have left is the meat. This is where many people who do Atkins, do it wrong and of course end up with a poor review on here.

If you take the time to read and learn about the diet in depth, you are not only supposed to eat MEAT. There a million other food choices. Atkin's even states in his book not to eat and excessive amount of protein. Instead, most of your carbohydrates (during induction), should come from VEGETABLES. Vegetables are GOOD FOR YOU, and you can never get enough. Instead of eating eggs with bacon slathered with cheese. Try a salad full of tomatos, cucumbers, peppers, broccoli, asparagus, with one breast of chicken.

I have went from the most junkfood loving person ever, to thinking I was going to die without "real" food the first 3 days of induction, to now realizing my body has been so deprived of what it really needed... REAL nutrients. Of course you can eat carbs!!! (in the later phases), but the diet is about eating HEALTHY CARBS, not Junk Carbs like candy, or white bread. People shouldn't judge Atkins diet before learning about it completely. I know my preconcieved notion of it was that it sounded gross and unhealthy, but when you realize there are all these vegetables you have never really consumed before, It opens up your appetite and you feel full and satisfied, not starving like restricted calorie diets.

I also want to point out that there is a misconception that "you can eat as much as you want" of lowcarb/no carb foods, which of course is false. You should eat till you feel satisfied. It doesnt mean that you should raid your fridge at 3 a.m. and munch on cheese. He explains that everything that is allowed in the diet should be in limited quanties.

If I eat too much protein (like I did in the early days of Induction), i Felt sick and tired. It wasn't until I started the exercise and reduced the protein to about 2-3 a day and replaced all my carbs with Vegetables that I started realizing that is how it is supposed to work.

I am 10 days into Induction only. I only wanted a quick weightloss before my summer holidays and have lost 9 pounds so far. This is the only "diet" I have lasted more than 3 days on. My cravings are gone, and i feel FULL after I eat. I only wanted to loose about 15 pounds, and after induction is over, I will really think about my eating habits more, and cut every carb corner possible. I am so much more aware now of what enters my mouth and how it affets my weight fluctuations. No more pigging out on cake, on candies, on chocolate bars. I've learned how to limit the foods that contribue to weight gain. Try it, it's great, just do it correctly according to the book, don't listen to Atkins rumors.
