Weight-Loss Story

Story by: Becky Engel
My name is Becky, I'm 28 years old, and I'm from San Diego. I'd like to share my weght loss success story with you. I say success because I've lost 135 pounds in just 8 months. I owe my success to a lot of things, but a large part of it goes to Nutrisystem diet program. Without Nutrisystem, I would never have had the motivation to lose any weight at all. The discipline and hard work is equally important, but the program were what really got me started and enabled me to stick with it for so long.

My downfall was fast food. I can't believe how much of it I've eaten. As I was growing up, I always looked forward to those visits to fast food places with my parents. I loved just the trip there and the food tasted really good. I just really enjoyed it. We didn't do it that often though, so it never posed a problem to my health. When I was a child I was really skinny. Even as I got into my early teens I was still really thin. I was also really happy and confident, and that was just always part of my personality. The looks helped though.

When I was in my teens, I was hanging out with friends more often than ever before, no longer with parents around. We just did whatever, but we always seemed to end up in fast food places. There really wasn't much else to do. We were too young to go to bars, and we couldn't drive around to places. So I ended up eating way too much bad food, way too much of the time. I started noticing weight gain, specifically in my tummy and hips. It wasn't much, but it was enough to worry me. Then as I got my license it got dangerous, because I could drive to these places and pick up food whenever I wanted! That was bad, because I totally did that. I couldn't kick the habit, I just kept going back.

Then I went away to college, and things only got worse. They had a cafeteria at my school with all kinds of chain restaurants in there. I could go eat greasy, unhealthy meals any time of the day -- plus it was the cheapest food out there, and I didn' have a lot of money. Through my first couple of college years, I was experiencing serious weight gain. I started college at around 150 pounds, and by my second year I was tipping the scales at 196 pounds. I felt awful, and I didn't know what to do. I figured that it was probably due to all the greasy food, but I couldn't help myself. Then I heard about a diet program called Nutrisystem, that was supposed to control your cravings for food. I wanted to try it, so I went ahead and did. For the first few months it worked great. My appetite dramatically decreased, and I was no longer eating more than I needed. I wasn't gaining any more weight, which made me feel more secure. But the trouble was that I wasn't enough, I still had to eat better and lose all the weight I already had. That wasn't going to be fun!

I tried to make it fun though. I took up rollerblading, and that ended up being my most important weapon. I really enjoyed skating, and I just kept spending more and more time rollerblading as time went on. It's the complete opposite of what I expected. I could never stick with an exercise before. But the skating was a blast, so I had no trouble keeping it up, I just really got into it. I also took up swimming, and I was able to keep that up for 3 nights a week. Along with the rollerblading everyday, I was keeping really active. And that's when I noticed the weight starting to come off. At school, I replaced my fast food meals with submarine sandwiches, and that was the clincher. I couldn't even eat fast food anymore, it made me sick and made me feel too heavy to go skating.

I've been at it for 6 months now, and I've lost 40 pounds. I'm so excited about this, and I know I can keep working at it, and reach my goal weight of 120.
