Many readers complain that Jenny Craig is overly expensive. Save your money and stick with better choices like Nutrisystem or Diet-to-Go.

I have to agree with all the reviews I've read. The Jenny Craig program and food is overpriced, the counselors are not trained, and every setback was my fault. I was "exercising too much", "not stay on the plan", I ate a corn tortilla and 'changed my body chemistry for the week', "I must be doing something wrong." I was on the program for 9 weeks and lost and gained the same two pounds. I feel cheated and lied to.

I've been on Jenny Craig for 1 week, and lost 2 lbs. Even though I lost the two pounds they promised me I will lose, I won't come back.
The first lady that I talked to was a great salesman. Like you said, they use your emotions and desperation just to sell you a membership. She almost convinced me to buy the 1 year deal, but I started making excuses, because I didn't want to go into a 1 year commitment, in case I wanted out after awhile. I ended up with the 20lbs. for 20 bucks.
After that, I talked to the "counselor". I realized pretty soon that she was not a counselor, but a saleswoman. The first thing she tried to sell me was some antioxidants with the excuse that in Phoenix the H1N1 virus was already making people sick, and that it would be great for me to get a bottle for $12.00. I told her I wasn't going to buy them.
After that she said that "you will need your anytime bars, they're delicious and have all the vitamins you need for the day", I said, no thanks, I have my own vitamins at home. "Well, you are not going to need those anymore because you have your bars now". By the way, the bars have the worst taste ever, are chewy and at the end it seems like you have been chewing on sand. They even tried to sell me a grocery bag, for $6.00
I left with a feeling that I had been taken for a fool, the "counselor" couldn't care less about me or any questions that I had, and wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible, since it was Saturday, and they leave early for the weekend. I paid $150.00 for 2 lbs lost in 1 week. Multiply that by 10 weeks and it was going to cost me $1300.00 for two months of food.
Even though I felt pretty dumb when I left the clinic, I'm very glad they didn't fool me into paying a $400.00 membership. If I did, I would be stuck with them for 1 year, buying their food, which is all they care about. After this experience, I'm doing the sensible thing and going with the Nutrisystem diet. Thanks for all your insight and comments.

okay, my experience is quite similar to everyone else.
- I went in with high expectations and feeling like I was at the end of my rope. The director I met with was very good at playing off those feelings. She talked me into a very expensive plan ($350) plus food. She was very motivating.
- First week, I lost 9 lbs, and I was very excited and motivated.
- Second week, I faltered a little, and my weightloss was zero the second week. I went in thinking my counselor would help me. Her response, "lets get back on the wagon....what would you like to order this week". No motivation, the director popped in and was more motivating then my counselor.
- Third week, gained one lb. I was having trouble staying focused, was a little bored, and having a lot of trouble staying motivated. My counselor could have cared less. She had nothing to say that made any impact.
- By the fourth week, I was over $700 into this program with about a 7 lb weighloss. Hmmm..$100 per lb.
Looking back, I now see the problems with this program. High pressure pitch to a desperate to lose weight person. Expensive, and I mean expensive food that is actually okay. The counselors really could care less, and they never really talked about exercise which is paramount in any weightloss program.
